You may be aware that the recent extremely heavy rainfall created some localised flooding in Walderslade. Unfortunately, this also led to surface water overflowing into part of the school buildings, affecting classrooms in Years 1 and 2 and the main school hall.
We have worked closely with the County Council and taken advice from specialist contractors, with the aim of ensuring the health, safety and welfare of pupils and staff, whilst minimising the disruption to children and parents as far as possible. A specialist deep clean is currently being undertaken, to dry and clean the floors and dehumidifiers are on site. Equipment is also on site to prevent any further flooding, with further heavy rain forecast.
In light of the latest advice, a decision has been taken to partially close the school on Monday 4th June for Years 1 and 2 only. Years R, 3, 4, 5 and 6 will be open as usual on Monday 4th June. However, please note that there is a possibility that children receiving school meals may be provided with a cold packed lunch rather than cooked food.
We plan to reopen Years 1 and 2 and provide hot meals from Tuesday 5th June, with work continuing over the weekend to prepare the classrooms and halls. I will write with a further update on Monday 4th June.
Thank you for your continued support as the school deals with this difficult situation.
